About Course

Course Description
This program of study is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills that are required for you to become a Patient Care Technician. The Patient Care Technician program educates students to assist patients with many tasks, perform clinical procedures, and to a variety of populations with various diseases. The student will learn to assist patients in a variety of healthcare settings such as: hospitals, rehabilitation clinics, assisted living facilities, nursing homes or long-term care facilities. Students will learn the principles of infection control. Upon successful completion, students are prepared to sit for the NHA National Certification Exam. After 11 weeks of classroom work, you will spend 8 weeks of externship.

 

Class Prerequisite
Nurse Aid Program Certificate. Valid Nurse Aid Certification in Good Standing.

 

Licensure / Certification
Although not required for employment, certification reflects the competency learned and skills obtained through this training and provides an advantage when seeking employment. Students are encouraged to obtain a CNA license upon completion of the course.

 

Employment Outlook
Patient Care Technicians can work in clinical laboratories, hospitals, community health centers, nursing homes, doctors’ offices, blood donation centers, and other healthcare facilities.
